The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHello DU
Some of you have noticed that I haven't been around here for awhile, I want to thank you for all of the PMs I have received that have expressed concern. I will try to answer them all when I am up to it, but I want you to know that I appreciate each and every message.
I have been ill and struggling badly, but I'm still here. I won't bore you with the details, but I have not been having a good time to say the least, and I'm not out of the woods.
I've recently found a piece of music that I will leave you with today that has been giving me strength. This is one of my favorite Grateful Dead songs, played live in Louisville Kentucky in 1974. Only a few here will feel this song, but it is powerful for me, and has given me hope. It is played in a "sotto voce" mode, meaning "under the voice", yet it is extremely powerful instrumentally...it gives me hope, and it gives me goosebumps...it helps me go on. To me, it is beauty personified. I hope you can put some headphones on and listen to it.
I'll check in occasionally...and as Jerry Garcia says at the end of this song "Thank you, we'll see you all later".
Keep the faith, be well, and Godspeed.

On a side note, a Cleveland, Ohio band called The Damnation of Adam Blessing covered Morning Dew in 1969. I enjoyed it very much.

(984 posts)I am so glad that you have found a song that is giving you strength. I recently heard something on a web video. The "expert" claimed that certain songs can stimulate the release of specific hormones or brain chemicals; I am guessing the song-chemical connection would be somewhat specific to the individual. So, he claimed, when we experience a deficiency in a brain chemical, that deficiency is sometimes resolved by a person getting hooked on a certain song. By playing the song over and over, our neurochemical is replenished. Well, maybe his claim is true or maybe not, but it makes me want to play my record collection until I hit on a song that gives me strength. You take care now, LuckyCharms.
