The town we lived in held a polio vaccine event at the local armory. My Mom brought all 4 of us kids and we stood in line with everyone else who was there, The line moved fairly quick as there were a number of individuals administrating the shot.
I had a best friend all through the school years who contracted polio when we were in elementary school. It left her with damaged leg muscles and she went through a lot of therapy. She eventually was able to walk again but with a leg brace on one leg.
