While looking for fabric for my home economics class. We were at a place that sold seconds, so she said look for a piece with "no strings attached".

I didn’t know the origin of an expression I have used all my life. In fact, I think I have been using it incorrectly!

maybe it does come from sewing?

"The phrase "no strings attached" generally means that something is offered or accepted without any hidden conditions, obligations, or expectations. It signifies a level of freedom and flexibility in various contexts, such as relationships, business deals, or casual interactions. In a relationship context, it indicates a casual connection without emotional commitment or future expectations. In business, it refers to agreements that are straightforward and without hidden conditions. Overall, it emphasizes unconditional offers that do not come with any strings or obligations.
