(32,349 posts)That little car with the compartment mounted ahead of the wheels put you right out into thin air.
OK, I guess when I was a kid, I would call it the scariest, and I think it still is.

(40,973 posts)It took me two years to get the nerve to ride the Loop-O-Plane when I was a kid & it was so much fun I didn't hesitate after that to try new rides. The Zipper was probably the most jarring ride I've been on. Not much fun. But never underestimate the charm & fun of a carousel.🎠

(32,349 posts)called the dive bomber, it was 2 cars mounted on a wheel 180 degrees apart. It went around like a Ferris wheel. It was scary because the only thing that kept you in the ride was a leather belt around your waist when you went upside down.
Sounds like the Loop-O-Plane?

(123 posts)If it's the one I'm thinking of, many of the corners were not banked so you felt like you were going OVER...weird and scary. Skydiver for me

(32,349 posts)they mounted the compartment where you sat way ahead of the wheels so that when you went around those 90 degree turns you were over the edge.

(123 posts)I prefer a ride where you'll at least have an enclosed car to be "recovered from"

(14,281 posts)My brother and I would ride and then get right back in line to do it again. We would do that until Mom forced us to leave.
In Vancouver there was one of the huge wooden roller coasters at the Pacific Northwest Exhibition.
Also, the back seat was best. We tried them all and the back seat whips like a tail.

(7,997 posts)Some of those corners felt like I was launching off of the Earth. And I could scream as loud as I wanted and no one cared.
There was another one but I don't know the name. It was a big pillar with a big circle on top with lots of suspended seats hanging. As the circle turned around and around, the people in the seats flew higher and higher.
Made me feel like Peter Pan!

(1,302 posts)I loved riding roller coasters. In the late 70s, at Myrtle Beach, a group of us went to a local amusement park where they had a corkscrew roller coaster. This park had a one price admission and you could ride all the rides as many times as you wanted. The park wasn't busy and we would ride the corkscrew, get off it, and get back in line to ride it again. The operator noticed this and since it wasn't busy told us to stay on the roller coaster as long as we liked. After about 10 rides we decided to call it quits. Hey, it was fun.
