(7,952 posts)MAGA is boycotting halftime because his songs are in Spanish and because they dont think Puerto Ricans are American.
Im watching just to keep the ratings up - these stadium concerts never sound good on my TV.

(15,455 posts)The guy pretty much just strutted around, shouting (not singing) rapid fire, shaking his pelvis forward to the beat. Falling thru the roof was novel. There was also a gal and a guy who sang briefly, not bad.
I'm an old white guy, so I guess I just don't get it. My first concert experience was in June of 1973 at the International Amphitheater in Chicago, Deep Purple backed up by ZZ Topp.
Wanna see an incredible vocal performance? Google Deep Purple Child In Time live 1970, and see why Luciano Pavarotti called singer Ian Gillan a force of nature and Andrew Lloyd Weber chose him to sing the lead role in the studio recording of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Most people have heard of Lady Gaga.
You may remember Ricky Martin's hit song "Livin la Vida Loca" from 1999. By the way, I'm an old white lady who's older than you.
The song Martin performed for the halftime show was Lo Que Pasó a Hawaii, (What Happened to Hawaii), described a rallying cry for Puerto Ricos autonomy.

(15,455 posts)I should have known Lady Gaga because I've seen/heard her before and have great respect, especially her performing with and reverence for Tony Bennett. And I knew of Ricky Martin back in the day, though I was never into that genre.
I suppose I've become somewhat of an old crank but I still rock out, go hiking, play softball, and make signs for the dozen protests I've been to over the last year. In some ways I'm still that kid with long hair who saw Sly and the Family Stone at the Aragon Ballroom a half century ago, but I'll admit my tastes in music haven't changed all that much.

(25,602 posts)So tho it is not my favorite kinda music he did state in English at the end G-d Bless America and then named every country in North, South and Central America. He also had in big letters in the back at the end, should have been filmed better, love is stronger than hate.
So I think it will be seen by a lot of people who love his music.
It was an act of defiance to do almost all of it in Spanish when people are being detained for speaking Spanish.
If you consider maybe he did this for people in our country who are suffering in fear. He gave them love.
It was pretty amazing IMO.

(15,455 posts)I was viewing the halftime show as entertainment, which was not my cup of tea.
The game itself ranked very low on the entertainment scale, with a small prospect of drama when the Patriots came within 5 points. But that soon evaporated.
