Through the kindness of so many, we managed to get the art loaded and drove to St. Louis. We got there late (an accident on the highway out of Springfield, MO) and the auction workers quickly unloaded everything in the truck. That took about an hour, and then we returned our UHaul truck to a nearby facility. Then we began the trip home.
I drove my car behind the UHaul truck because we couldn't get a car trailer in our area and would have been able to get one just outside Springfield, so that didn't seem worthwhile. That was a 250-mile run to St. Louis, and then we split the drive on the way home. We got back to my house around 11pm. I was completely wiped out the next day and slept for most of it. The following day wasn't much better, and it has taken me quite some time to feel like a human again.
BUT, that part is done. There were a few (a couple dozen) small statues that didn't make it in the truck, and I'm planning on taking the rest back to the auction house before the 21st of this month. Our basement will be empty of art at that point. We do have LOTS of materials left over from our manufacturing company and that will be its own nightmare.
When we moved here, we arrived with 3 18-wheelers! It has taken 15 years to pare down to what we have now, we had an art gallery and multiple sales over the years, and it seems like when any space gets emptied out, it suddenly fills with more. Sometimes I feel like Sisyphus; pushing the ball up the hill only for it to roll back down the next day.
So, thanks to all the wonderful people in my life, I accomplished a monumental task that seemed impossible until it was done. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. The biggest Thank You goes to Lucky Charms.
Without his patience and help, I would have never been able to get the GoFundMe together. He is definitely my hero.
Now for them to sell it all.

(31,225 posts)my problems are so small compared to the world and all the people on it. Your situation is so much more difficult than mine, and you have been so brave and courageous through it all.
