In this case, four. And, sure, they get to live it up in Manhattan, while I'm back at work over here--must be nice!!
Well, to be fair, I was invited, but I had already spent most of January in America, and the "where the hell are you" messages were piling up over here.
So, for my sister's birthday in New York, my wife went over there for a week. She had come back to Germany early on December 31, because her own mom had passed away, and she stayed on, while I went back to America after the funeral. My younger daughter, whose own birthday was just two days later, went over from Frankfurt, and celebrated her own birthday there as well. My nephew, who had just spent 3 years in Kyiv, went up from Washington to be there with them. On the 35th floor of some fancy place, they had some fabulous kind of lunch.

I'm sure I would have loved it, although the zero degree F temperature would have given me pause. My wife seems to have managed to keep her smile intact, despite all that, and my nephew was enjoying not having to interrupt his sleep by having to go down to a bomb shelter a couple of times per night.
