Italian food memories that brought tears

My Mom was 2nd generation Italian in South Philadelphia and grew up in the Great Depression.

I have eaten about a third of these depression era dishes, and they were wonderful beyond words.

Mother born 1918, father born 1912.

I remember once speaking to a doc in the hospital when my mother was inpatient.

The doc told be that people born in that era who lived through the great depression were tougher physically than people born more recently, because they had to be tougher.
