(742 posts)I dont recall which came first but my favorite was Sandy Becker. He drew a cartoon character every show and came on early in the day, maybe 9 am. It might have been a regional NY show.

(26,303 posts)Some families did not have TVs yet at the time. So neighborhood kids came to our house to watch. We sat on the floor, and my mother brought us snacks.
The TV was a floor model with a small screen that took up about only one quarter of the whole TV. Only black and white, of course.

(8 posts)I don't know if he was just local to the Detroit area or not?
He was initially on local TV. He was a neighbor (7 Mile and Meyers) and we would see him in the market occasionally. Starting in 1953 he had a noontime show on WXYZ called Lunch with Soupy Sales.
"Up in the air, junior birdbaths!"
"If you can't make both ends meet, make one vegetable!"
"Hey kids! What word starts with the letter F and ends with uck? That's right - firetruck!"

(23,312 posts)On a Cleveland, Oh. station. It was probably a 15 or 30 minute show. I liked Captain Penny. He was dressed as a train engineer. He'd talk a little and then show a cartoon. I remember seeing black and white Krazy Kat cartoons. I remember watching other shows as I got older.

Having looked some stuff up but didn't find - I remember a children's game show where; you know a physical game board with a "wiggly" drawn path you move your pieces on - well, I remember a wiggly path on the floor of the show that kids moved around on. Have no idea otherwise about it.

(72,379 posts)Loved it. I grew up in Texas. But when we moved to Arizona, we toured the "Old Tucson" filming location and theme park. I recognized a number of the landscapes in the opening montage.
