(72,440 posts)were taking a trip to Canada. No word on whether we plan to come back.
Where in Canada are you headed? It's a big country.
British Columbia?

(1,824 posts)Then can something with a net energy (including mass and gravity) actually exist?
Aristus
(72,440 posts)These things exist. Anything with a definable molecular structure is irrefutably real.
-misanthroptimist
(1,824 posts)I say that because as near as we can tell at this point, the net energy of the universe is zero. (Or at least that was the case the last time I checked.)
So...if that's the case, is the universe "real?"
Aristus
(72,440 posts)If you divide the amount of matter in the universe by how much nothing there is in the universe, the answer is so close to zero as to essentially be nothing.
So its possible were all just each others crazy dreams

(1,824 posts)The world certainly looked real enough to Tom Sawyer, for instance. No way we could make him believe otherwise. But we know he's a work of fiction. As such, Tom thought and did exactly as Mr. Twain wished without a single thought of his own.
It's appalling if you think about it too much, isn't it?
Aristus
(72,440 posts)Can't say that emotions have a definable molecular structure. But love and the other emotions are real.

(4,083 posts). . . Fever Tree tonic water, quarter of a lime, Waterford crystal tumbler, measured using old shot glass from Swiss grandfather. A bit more gin than tonic.
Best gin and tonic I ever had was at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel, Singapore, before it became awash in tourists.

(3,359 posts)We cant say for certain how big it is, only that we can observe it to a certain distance, so we can deduce that its at least this big. (I forget the numbers.) We can say that some of it is moving away from us (pretty rapidly)
I think. Based on the red shift of light from galaxies reaching us, we can estimate how rapidly they are moving away from us.
But theres a whole lot we will never know about the universe! (And vastly more that I dont know!)

(413 posts)How are you and the family doing friend hope all is well . Heading to the gym in a bit to workout ,at the moment Im having coffee and my furry son is sleeping on my feet on back porch.
Fell asleep around 20:00 and was wide awake 01:30 decided just to get up start the day tossed in a a load of laundry.
Ran into one of your M.O.S. Tribe members at work the other day 19K series and as you he is Gulf war veteran hes a fine man thinks as we think.
We were picking up freight at the same customer and he climbed into my tractor and we talked.
Hes running local as i am we have start times half hour apart like me he just turned sixty and were both waiting to hit 65 to collect Medicare and our union pension.
As me he doesnt want to purchase gap insurance the price is high.
At one time in retirement if you were not 65 yet teamsters actually had you and family covered on health care insurance fully paid until you went on Medicare.
Im hoping we have the beginnings of a reset come midterms 46 years of trickledown and here we are in late stages of vulture capitalism.
Take it easy Aristus.
