Am I the only one who gets peeved when my bank sends an email that says: We received information indicating that your card may have been compromised at an undisclosed merchant then goes on to say they're issuing a new card? I only have one card, but what a pain in the arse it is when you get a new card, new number, new expiration date and pay all your bills online! This is the second time in about three years that this has happened to me.
I guess what really gets me is the "undisclosed merchant" part. Does that mean they can't tell you which merchant compromised my card or does it mean they have no clue which merchant compromised it?

(17,709 posts)It states they are sending a new card and I've had this happen once before and yes, I received a new card with a new number then. I remember having to change all the places online that I've used that card for. It's a royal pain.

(16,373 posts)I haven't been to Illinois for over 10 years. I figured that amount must have been for a semi and someone made a clerical error entering a legitimate number. Maybe.
So we flagged it as fraud and they cancelled the cards immediately. Had to wait about a week for new ones to be sent.
Frustrating because we didn't have the new number or expiration etc. to change auto pays or merchants we frequent.

(17,709 posts)There is no evidence of fraud that has impacted this card (yet). I check online almost every other day or at the very least twice a week. I only have one card - I don't need any more than that. It seems like the bank knows something about some potential for fraud which they want to protect themselves and me against. Their email even stated they see no impact on my account. Maybe overkill on their part?
