I'm still looking for a place to live where I can have a cat (and maybe a little less...

.
.
.
... housemate stress.
.
.
.
Housemate #1 (the prison guard) moved out about 6 weeks ago -- his Phoenix-based GF
(wife?) gave him a "transfer-or-else" ultimatum, I think. Ambivalent about that -- he wa
EXTREMELY passive-aggressive (the unexplained silent treatment was a favorite tool).
.
Housemate #2 (the contractor who gets an occassional gig captaining and shuttling yachts
for wealthy people when they make their MAJOR seasonal moves between here and ports
far south). Very reclusive and even anti-social, but decent enough and even interesting
when he DOES talk... and again, NO trouble.
.
Housemate #3 is me. Flawless.
.
Housemate #4 has been more transient than Murphy Brown's administrative assistants.
All varying degrees of major league assholes but one -- a man in his 70's awaiting
sentencing for getting caught a SECOND time smuggling pot into the U.S. -- he was the
only decent human being to stay in that room out of the 7 or 8 that have stayed there in
the three years that I have been here, but he had cancer that worsened and he had to
move up to Phoenix to be closer to his aggressive treatment.
.
This last one seemed decent enough. Prison in his past (I didn't ask for what). No big
deal. Did his time. Paid his dues. LATE Tuesday night, this woman knocks on the door
and says her iPhone had been stolen from the bar where she worked and she had
GPS-traced it to inside our house.
.
I didn't believe her and told her I wasn't going to wake up my two working housemates
who had to get up early. An hour or so later, the police were knocking at the door. They
asked if they could come inside and I refused (even innocent, I'm no dummy). They
told me they wanted the phone and weren't interested in filling out any paperwork... but
would be happy if they got the phone.
.
I finally agreed to get the other two guys. Got the contractor and he sleepily stumbled
out. "Not him" said phonewoman. The other guy comes out, iPhone in hand (it was
ringing as the officer was calling it) and just handed it over and turned away, That was
it. Lucky, lucky lowlife idiot.
.
I was ready to go talk to the landlord tomorrow... ex-con was fine, but neither of us
other two wanted to live with an ACTIVE petty thief, but he moved out tonight.
.
Arrrggghhh.
.
He left a MESS in the kitchen sink, but it's OK. He also left some beer (he was a barfly
AND a 12-pack a night home drinker). I figure there's JUST enough beer to compensate
me for cleaning up the sink.
.
Funny how things work out that way.

Someone mentioned the slow eyeblink as a form of communication. I realized that with
NoName (we had MANY a long conversation together) and I knew a woman who worked
with big cats (lions and tigers and such) down in Central America and she said they do
the same thing.
.
I used to tease NoName by winking at her slowly with alternate eyes. She would look
intently and I THINK she tried, but was incapable of winking.

If I were you I'd just sneak a cat in. They're quiet. The only time my cats move is when they get a can. Then they will open their mouths only as far as necessary.

I had no idea you were dealing with so much stress from your housemates. Yuck.

Good luck house hunting......or apartment hunting...

I hope your landlord doesn't raise your rent to make up for the two who have left.

.... but he'd have to charge about $500 less than he charges for four rooms, so I've
never believed him (plus they'd be on him for maintenance and stuff FAR more than
we've ever bothered him. He hasn't raised the rent in the 3 years I've been here and
I don't think he will -- he doesn't want to piss off his longterm tenants and have to
deal with finding 4 people rather than one or two at a time.

I've was pretty lucky earlier in life when I had roommates -- I guess karma is coming
back to bite me in the ass now.

... but the section I live on is disconnected by quite a distance and is only its own
little one-block-long tag end. Seriously, much more often than not, when I order
food online, though I include very precise directions for the drivers and they almost
all use GPS locators, they end up calling Kali (I still have no phone) and trying to
figure out just where the hell I am.
.
.
.
If I had a phone, I would call her and tell her to expect one of them to call. But
then again, if I had a phone, I wouldn't have to give HER phone number as my
contact point.
.
But I would anyways... just so she'd feel useful and productive.

That's just the way I roll.

Looong time reader, just started posting. Good vibes and good luck on finding a restive and fun home situation. I know from your past posts a little about your health issues and hope you find a solution that also relieves your stress!

PS: I get a kick out of your posts and sense of humor.

... but I think with my health issues, I'm better off staying near physicians familiar
with me -- not to mention a climate that is relatively warm year-round, not to
mention dry and blue-sky sunny.
.

.
If there's an extra room, I'd turn it into my first man-cave -- and you could come
over and we'd put a hand-lettered sign a la Spanky and Our Gang that said:
.
HE-MAN WOMAN HATERS CLUB -- STAY OUT--EXCEPT FOR JEN... JEN CAN ENTER.
.
She'd probably have to learn to fart in order to fit in, though

But we had a really mild winter last year. Only one storm and only a few days below 20 degrees. Global warming might be turning us into the next Tucson. My apartment will probably still be available when that happens.

That place was the perfect bachelor's pad except for the fact that I couldn't turn up my guitar amp to ten and I had to keep the heavy metal records turned down to a reasonable level. I could crank the John Denver to any level, though. Three women in their 50s occupied the rest of the apartments in the building. Many a beer was drank in that place.

I wish I could afford to keep it as a second residence, but I have to either rent it or sell it. I've tried to sell it and I'm going to again. My tenant's lease is up. But it will probably be leased long before I can find a buyer, and even at that I'd probably have to take a loss on it. Can't afford that right now.
