(18,101 posts)Back when spiralhawk was PPRed for woo woo. He said it was ok to come back, but starting over, and no more of the same behavior that resulted in the PPR.

No, and I don't believe in woo.

(2,570 posts)but was a bit surprised by the top post callout another DUer launched against him the other day. I guess I need to refamiliarize myself with the rules around here.
Sometimes this place reminds me of high school
SoapBox
(18,791 posts)I knew of the user name but didn't know the posts well.
There are some users that are RABID, when folks say stuff they don't like (need I even mention Israel or guns!)
I hope the Admin keeps a common sense perspective.
stupidicus
(2,570 posts)I'm a relative newcomer here in terms of posting, although I've long used it as a news source. Given the size of the poster pool here, they occasionally post something I haven't picked up elsewhere.
Saying something others didn't like was his offense, and why I referred to this place as high school-like. It seems to me like the admin (well, more accurately the jurors) seem to show favor to the popular kids, at least that has been the perception I've developed from my limited experiences here.
I'd be most happy to engage the "rabid ones" on either issue you mentioned, but don't see them. I only respond to the posts that make it to the top page ike this one. That's why I was surprised to see the personal callout of hopehoops...

(56,828 posts)never put him (or anybody) on ignore, as I am mostly capable of doing that on my own, but no I don't think he meant anybody any harm and I know for a fact he has helped several here in real life.
the comment to AsahinaKimi was WAY over the line in a long history of pretty much close to or over the line postings but he was not malicious that I ever saw.
He was warned a number of times and I am always sorry to see any long time DUer get banned, but I can understand why Skinner made the decision.

(17,240 posts)for poor behavior. When we simply ignore we allow this behavior to continue.
I know that you may not understand that, but his posts were against the TOS as illustrated in many of the jury's votes.
If someone were to tell me that my posts were unacceptable, sexist and offensive I think I would try to change my tune. He decided that he couldn't and wouldn't.
This PPR is his fault, completely.
I wouldn't mind him coming back with a better grasp on what he says. I have nothing against him except that he was crude and sexist.
Baitball Blogger
(52,341 posts)that offend them the most.
What I notice the most about the people that want flesh, is that I see them starting a lot of threads complaining about things, but very few which bring new subject matter to this forum that is neutral and fun.
If we were allowed to put people on Ignore and still be able to serve on juries, the Ignore button might be used more. Nope, not even then because they couldn't alert on offensive posters.
Lady Freedom Returns
(14,198 posts)causing stuff like this. There are so many other things that kind of energy could be used for. And then what? One group has done this, what else could happen?
Baitball Blogger
(52,341 posts)How can we become a progressive force when we're imploding internally? For that matter, how can it be progressive if the level of intolerance is so high that half of the people are using the Ignore button, and the other half are out to police it?
Makes no sense. But, it is what it is.

the attacks but he had time to wise up. This has been going on for days. Don't dehumanize people is a good rule of thumb. We all lose.
Incitatus
(5,317 posts)He clearly wasn't a freeper troll. Suspensions for members who are liberals and admins believe are in violation of the rules should be considered instead of banning. I stay out of meta so I'm not sure what exactly happened but it appears someone did call him out in an OP (an obvious violation of the rules) and things just escalated.
Lady Freedom Returns
(14,198 posts)I like to call it "The Forum that MUST NOT be Named".
Incitatus
(5,317 posts)That seems to be the case since that looks like what happened.
I thought that was the whole reason in not allowing call-outs. Either the rules apply there or they don't. That's messed up.

(3,580 posts)I'd rather have a rough about the edges but basically decent person like hopehoops around anyday than some of the hateful, perpetually outraged, nasty PC extremists who haunt Meta

(40,365 posts)But I agree, spellcheck cannot tell me which correctly spelled word it lists is the correct word. I've picked the wrong word myself a few times and didn't catch it till after I posted.

(2,047 posts)I don't know HH well as a matter of fact you can see by my low post total even thought I've been a member for years that I don't post all that often but Hope Hoops was very kind to me when I had to have my cat Cali put down and also recently gave me very good advice when my kitten was sick.
Some of his posts have made me cringe at times but I know overall he is a kind-hearted person. When you are in contact with him again please let him know I will miss him.

(20,453 posts)Don't you think that's a little harsh to think someone imbibes or is "using" when they are not here to defend it?
I have to admit that I have never seen (or looked for) an HH comment that sent me over the edge. That sounds like you were offended beyond reproach. Did you express your offense in a way that asked for an apology? I don't want to make you bring up something about the past, mind you.
I have a very difficult time with bitterness over things expressed here, regardless of the DU environment.

(20,234 posts)in the defending HH thread so as not to further derail this, out of respect for Peggy and her intent here.
one_voice
(20,043 posts)there are multiple shit on HH threads in META you didn't need to shit on Peggy's thread.
She's obviously upset about his banning.
I'm not defending HH, just saying could we leave Cal Pegs thread alone, it's in the lounge and it seems to be for friends of HH.
There are plenty of threads in META for this type of thing. She didn't start this thread for this.
Just asking if maybe you could cut her some slack on this.

(18,101 posts)Maybe he saw some of your many meta mega meltdown shit fits and was showing you the respect he thought you deserved.

Just a guess.

(17,437 posts)I understand your motivation in starting it here in the Lounge where HH's friends could see it, but it isn't going anywhere good. If you self reply with your original message first, people will still be able to get the word without bringing further rancor here. Just my 2 cents.
