... in a coupla small clearings deep in the woods. I had spent a lot of time in the Army as a
medic supporting some Infantry scouts, so I was very quiet when I walked in Nature.
.
Suddenly, I spotted a deer a little ways off... then I spotted more. I saw a big buck, almost
certainly the alpha male, and within seconds he spotted me and slowly raised his head and
we stared at each other for quite a while.
.
Eventually, my vibes/aura convinced him that I meant them no harm and he lowered his
head and continued feeding.
.
They eventually moved slowly along, but for a while, they had accepted me into their herd.
.
It was the most thrilling "adventure" that I ever had in the woods.
.
It inspired a haiku, possibly the best one I ever wrote -- even the title is a haiku.
.
I won a contest with it. They printed it up on rice paper and it was an insert in
the middle of a literary magazine:

Under Surveillance
While Tending a Remote Field
Of Marijuana

Frozen autumn doe
Feigns invisibility
Inhales my spirit
