During the next seven years of The Faith Tones’ heyday, Marie worked at a minimum-wage night-job supervising children with Down syndrome while working toward her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Music Composition at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Both degrees, she eventually obtained.

In retrospect, the seven-year success of The Faith Tones would never have been possible had it not been for the quiet, diligent compositional work of Marie Samuels; She obviously refrained from any and all romantic involvement, devoting all her time to her work with disabled children and toward her music studies.

In 1974, she signed a lease with a young product engineer employed by 3M, apparently having fallen in love. Two months later, she sought medical treatment suspecting complications from a possible unexpected pregnancy.

Marie died from complications during surgery when a parasitic twin, a fetus in fetu, was discovered in her abdomen and surgeons attempted to remove it. She died from trauma and blood loss at the age of twenty-nine.

I didn't know he made an album. He had lived in a broken down trailer, never had any money or education. He made a few dollars here and there singing in bars. He had a great voice...a loud booming voice, could hit any note, could play the guitar very well. Really nice guy. Never had a girlfriend, and I always wondered why. The money thing, maybe. But he was attractive in a sexy, earthy way, tho not handsome.

A girl’s Sweet Sixteen should be special, but it looks like poor Julie received some bad news instead of a new car. I’m guessing Pop is reassuring her that everything will be OK. “Just tell me the boy’s name, and I’ll get my shotgun and Ma will rustle up the preacher…”

John Bult hails from Lake Charles, Louisiana, and once performed on the legendary Louisiana Hayride. He’s a house painter by trade these days, although he still loves to sing and brings his guitar to crawfish boils to entertain family and friends. By all accounts he’s just one all-around good ol’ devoted family guy (he and his long-time wife, an Extension Agent with Louisiana State University, have two grown children, and neither one is named “Julie”) who has a million stories to tell and will do so with minimal prompting

Yes, I'm from Louisiana. I remember him pretty well, altho I listened to the song on Youtube, and his voice doesn't sound as good there as I remember it. Maybe memories are like that. Then again, his voice didn't sound booming on the video, and his voice really was very loud in person.

He was a nice guy. Glad to hear he got married. He never had a girlfriend at an age when we all had girlfriends and boyfriends. In fact, I think it was my boyfriend who knew him, rather than a direct connection with me.

So freaky to run across this! And really freaky that I would recognize him!

(BTW, a comment in Youtube said the girl on the cover is his real life niece.)

But sorry to hear his career never went very far. That's a hard business.
