3. In regards to adopting an adult

I know a couple of elderly gentlemen, where one was much older than the other.
They decided that since they can't get married, to get visitation rights and other things, they just decided for adoption.

The younger man was adopted by the elder, so he got a hyphenated last name, and if one of them are sick, they can have visitation rights and the ability to transfer assets.

I thought it was pretty smart.
