I have a healthy book-lover's animosity to e-readers. Don't even get me started on the death-of-merit encapsulated by publish-on-demand.

I plan on using it more as a tablet, since you can surf the web on it.

If you use it to browse DU, get a stylus that will work on it. It's wicked hard to touch the forum links in the left column with your finger. I seem to end up in the Lounge a lot trying to get to GD or Meta.

Otherwise, it's a cool little tablet. Nice resolution.

Turn off the WiFi when you're not using it. Lots of battery suckage.

Have fun. I love mine.

When I'm just reading on it, though, I do shut off the WiFi. I have a regular Kindle, too. I actually prefer it for reading books, and it's lots easier to use Gutenberg.org books on the original one. It's a PITA to put them on the Fire. The regular Kindle has a really long battery life when you're just reading.
