http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101458/Sometimes-muddled road movie-turns-sci fi. Hurt plays a man who is traveling the world taking pictures with a special camera that will enable the blind to see (specifically, his blind mother). He meets up with Dommartin on the way, and they predictably hit it off. Set in 1999, a subplot about a nuclear satellite that has fallen to earth and presumably destroyed civilization only adds to the confusion.

I'm a huge Nick Cave and Birthday Party fan, so considering already he's represented, as are the others on the Until the End of the World's Soundtrack, I'll add:
The The and Matt Johnson. His work is timeless - this song is nearly 25 years old. Same as it ever was...
Armageddon Days Are Here Again
They're 5 miles high as the crow flies
leavin' vapour trails against a blood red sky
Movin' in from the East toward the West
with Balaclava helmets over their heads, yes!
But if you think that Jesus Christ is coming
Honey you've got another thing coming
If he ever finds out who's hi-jacked his name
He'll cut out his heart and turn in his grave
Islam is rising
The Christians mobilising
The world is on its elbows and knees
It's forgotten the message and worships the creeds
It's war, she cried, It's war, she cried, this is war
Drop your possessions, all you simple folk
You will fight them on the beaches in your underclothes
You will thank the good lord for raising the union jack
You'll watch the ships sail out of harbour
and the bodies come floating back
If the real Jesus Christ were to stand up today
He'd be gunned down cold by the C.I.A.
Oh, the lights that now burn brightest behind stained glass
Will cast the darkest shadows upon the human heart
But God didn't build himself that throne
God doesn't live in Israel or Rome
God doesnt belong to the yankee dollar
God doesn't plant the bombs for Hezbollah
God doesn't even go to church
And God won't send us down to Allah to burn
No, God will remind us what we already know
That the human race is about to reap what it's sown
The world is on its elbows and knees
It's forgotten the message and worships the creeds
Armageddon days are here again
World Destruction by TIME ZONE: Afrika Bambaataa and Johnny Lydon in 1984. How am I the first to post this - it's the cold war classic! ***Warning*** Contemporaneous Ronald Reagan speech segment contained herein->
I'll add another The The song: Heartland. In 1986, Johnson feared that globalism would make the UK an economic appendage of the USA, but his lyrics about the loss in the heartland are germaine to all of us. Johnson's prescient concerns nearly (gulp) 30 years ago are our's today considering our trade policies, the WTO and the current economic crisis:
and the antidote for all the meta madness
Under Pressure: Freddie Mercury and David Bowie.

And Jacob's in the hole
THe monkey's on the ladder
The devil shovels coal
With crows as big as airplanes
The lion has three heads
And someone will eat the skind that he sheds
ANd the earth died screaming
The earth died screaming
While I lay dreaming of you
Well hell doesn't want you
And heaven is full
Bring me some water
Put it in this skull
I walk between the raindrops
Wait in Bug House Square
And the army ants
They leave nothin' but the bones
And the earth died screaming
While I lay dreaming of you
There was thunder
There was lightning
Then the stars went out
And the moon fell from the sky
It rained mackerel
It rained trout
And the great day of wrath has come
And here's mud in your big red eye
The poker's in the fire
And the locusts take the sky
And the earth died screaming
While I lay dreaming of you

(28,269 posts)"In the Year 9595,
I'm gonna wonder if Man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give,
And he ain't put back nothin'......
Now it's been ten thousand years,
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through eternal night,
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away,
Maybe it's only yesterday........"
