This thread is dedicated in memory of furfriends we have loved and lost

First I just want to thank everyone for their support and outreach while I was dealing with the loss of my beloved Abbott. It meant alot to me and I've even printed out the thread to save with some other mementos I have of Abbott.

I know I'm not the only one who has loss a beloved fur friend and I wanted to start a thread so that all DUers could post about their beloved but no longer with us furry friends.

All shelter kind of wonderful hounds, from pure basset to beagle mixes. It's been many years but still painful to think about them gone.

Byron crossed the Rainbow Bridge in July, 2001. I swear he understood everything I said.
We lost Leigh in September, 2011 after giving us 16 1/2 years of pure love.

Willamina was my Billie girl. She lived over 18 years.
Her daughter Angel was allergic to the world. She was always sneezing year round.

My life was immeasurably richer because of their love, their devotion.

We were together 5 years and two weeks, to the day. The vet said he was about 16

He was an older kitty when I got him and had been kicked out of the house at a young age. The dear little guy lost all of one ear to frostbite and part of the other and lived outside for ten-plus years after being basically abandoned. After I brought him home from the foster's place he eventually figured out that the house was safe and was his alone and became a proper cat again. He was the most sweet, loving, appreciative creature I have ever known and I know that he loved me as much as I loved him.

I still miss you, little fella.

She always followed me when I walked outside pushing my daughter's stroller. I adopted her as a tiny kitten from a Maine animal shelter, and she was with me for 15 wonderful years.

Mellie, the huge white Samoyed dog who looked like a small polar bear but was as sweet as could be.

I was heartbroken when Lilly died a few years ago at the age of 14, but I consoled myself by focusing my attention on Mozart...until he died 8 weeks later. The double loss was really hard to take.

I'm sorry to hear about Abbott. Hold on to those memories.

Other women go on a three day drunk and end up pregnant, get a DUI or a new tat. I woke up with a rescued kitten who had a horrible case of fleas and was malnourished. She also was one of the most vile tempered, mean, evil cats on the planet. She hated men with a passion--the only one she ever liked I married--and she loved nothing more than attacking me whenever I walked across a room. She would swat at a ringing phone and would make burying motions at me when she was pissed off about something. She terrorized the vet clinic, and they all just rolled their eyes when I took her in.

Every night she would sleep with me and would get right up next to me and lay on her back waiting for a tummy rub. For 17 years we had nightly tummy rubs, and I knew it was time to let her go when she no longer asked for one. I'd seen the decline and I knew the time was coming, but I was not ready for it. Her kidneys failed and there was nothing else to do but let her go.

Tillie moved on almost 12 years ago, and I miss her still. We have a new feline overlord in the house, but there are days when I swear I walk into the living room and see that long haired float of a bitch cat sprawled in a puddle of sun having a bath.

13. Moggy, Willy Bear, and Shari -

Moggy and Willy were my first fir-babies - born a week apart but raised by Moggy's mom, so they were basically brothers. Moggy was a dignified Bombay and Willy was a Korat mix who ran around the house like a cannonball with a curley-que tail - and they were both momma's boys wh traveled with me whenever work took me out of town for more than a week. Moggy was such a cuddle monster, the grand hunter of cheese, brussel sprouts, roast chicken and whipped cream.

Shari was one of the sweetest, dumbest mutts you ever could meet. She'd try so hard to understand what you were saying to her - don't get me wrong, she was a clever dog, but she had the memory of a fruit-fly. She was a bit anxious and would bark if the wind shifted, but we think that might have been because her pupils were set against the lower inner corners of her eyes, instead of in the center, and she had very little peripheral vision.

Then there were the ratties - Mr. Nibbles, Fluffy, Algernon, and Peaches the terrorist. They were all heartbreakers, as they had great personalities (Peaches and Moggy were best buddies)but their lives were so short. We couldn't keep them anymore, it was just too difficult.

And the feathered babies. Malichi, the cockitiel, who bullied both Moggy and Willy so much they had no interest in birds at all. He would fly around the house, chasing the boys and playing with Laz - he inadvertantly found an open door and tried to be with us out back on a windy day and the wind caught him. Sylvester, who whistled and would call everyone "bird" - and couldn't figure out how to mate with Chuckles, who layed eggs left, right, and center trying to get his attention.

We still have fir-babies; Princess, Pixel, the sisters Eris and Kali, and of course Chuckles, and hope they stay with us for a long, happy, healthy time.

for being late in offering condolences on the loss of your beloved fur-kid.

I wanted to, but I've been going through some pretty intense loss issues myself, then there was that whole school shooting thing, and honestly, I was in tears nearly all of last weekend and could not deal with any more sadness.

In any event, I thought about adding my own memoriam to my past fur-kids but don't want to get crying again.

So sorry to all...I know how very much it can hurt.

a beautiful three and a half year old greyhound. We adopted him in September, 2012 and adored him. Two days before Thanksgiving my 10 year old daughter took out to the back yard for a run and the next thing we heard was her screaming for her father and I. We went running out to the back porch and found Fergus dead. The only thing our vet could come up with was that he had an undetected heart condition much like the young athletes you hear about who play and play and play and then drop dead one day out of the blue. We miss him very much. We were lucky to be able to adopt another greyhound shortly after Thanksgiving and Finnbar is a hoot. He is helping to heal the Fergus-sized hole in our family.

Toonsis was my special love cat. Bob was my son's naughty boy. I miss Bob because he made himself so present in my everystep. Under my feet pushing me to the feeding station for wet food.He literally was a herd cat.
He deserves his own essay someday.

Toonsis was perfect.

He was my best buddy for nearly 11 years. White, with blue eyes. I lost him in 2001, but I still think of him often. He was my precious friend.
