Aliia Keyes?

I don't know much about her. I know who she is.

I heard her song at the inaugural ball. She has a great voice, but....it sounds more like yelling than singing to me.

What's with all the yelling? Jennifer Hudson, too....lots of wavy notes and loud noise, instead of emoting and, well, singing. Makes me wanna say, "Find the note, already! We're waiting!"

She'll probably get better when she's older. If she doesn't fade away like Mariah Carey. Honeycombe8 Jan 2013 #2

I love that she writes her own music, and she sings more than just love songs. She also writes about women and the challenges they face. She's amazing. Check her out on YouTube. Here's one from her new album:

The wavy notes...the "don't I have a great voice" style of singing is something young people with good voices do. They forget they are supposed to emphasize the song, and let the voice sing for itself. Instead, they try to showcase their voice.

As much as I dislike Celine Dion, she is one who has gotten it right. She has an amazing voice, and does emphasize the song, the meaning of the words. She moves cleanly from note to note....without all the wavy "don't I sing great" noise in between.

sometimes they ruin their voices with improper vocal techniques if they are not careful. I didn't hear all of Alicia Keyes' song, but Jennifer Hudson sounded flat or something during parts of her performance. It made me wonder if the song just wasn't good for her type of voice or what was going on. I agree, sometimes I think they try too hard and should just let the song itself.
