(10,420 posts)I had to make a minor correction there, but I think it still reads pretty much the same.

(21,925 posts)Maybe you should try your hand at writing short stories drawing in part on your experiences with the beauty as well as the assholes and bastards, addicts and self righteous bigots, the cigarettes, the parties, and the rest.

(10,420 posts)I've got a lot of these little true stories, and I have tried my hand at trucker fiction, although I only have a few stories too show from it.

(13,661 posts)It does seem that the space in-between is where the magic happens, the little things that really make life memorable.
Hope you and Jen have an enjoyable weekend.

(10,420 posts)I think you know a thing or two about beauty.

(34,582 posts)I remember the first time I really got out in the boonies (early 20's). It was Ink's Lake, TX. I stared at the sky until I fell asleep at 5 AM. I did this the next night, too. Laying on a sleeping bag in the dirt- it was great.

(171,664 posts)when I was on a work TDY in Wilkes-Barre PA, I invited a big-rig trucker who was stretching upon wakening while parked in the hotel/supermarket parking lot to join me at the free hotel buffet breakfast. We had a blast!!!

If you really don't like doing your job just to do it, you need to rethink what you are doing.

(38,958 posts)deal with them every day in my work. They are generally a pretty good bunch, doing a job that isn't all that easy. They are part of the background of society that just makes things work for the rest of us.

(6,581 posts)Six am is no problem. I get up between 3:30 and 4:00 weekdays to get to the gym by five.

(72,300 posts)a very real part of working in the truckin' industry.
I pity the poor, hard working, honest truck drivers who's paychecks are ~ robed by the companies employing truckers and pilot cars.
There are trucking companies still owing me monies for successful OTR jobs I've done. [img]
[/img]
The best days of my OTR life didn't come from working hand n hand with police up in Thetford Mines (Quebec, Canada) moving a 20 wide load for Landstar, or even the load with a stretch trailer (overhang was not to be believed) going to New Orleans.
It was on the deadhead from Montana to home, my last long OTR escort.
imo: America, in all of it's splendor is truly beautiful.
Your words
It's not in getting paid, although that is essential. No, the beauty in trucking is what you do in between.
are perfect.
Thank you, Tobin S.

(72,300 posts)love turning off the CB and turning up the tunes all the way back home again
If I didn't truly love keeping the roads safe for everyone, I'd quit.
Here is a random thought that newbie escorts always ask:
Why is it ~ the bigger the load, the smaller the road?
