And I suppose that the CPAC convention isn't giving people enough to get worked up about....or the predictability is boring.

Now just shut the door in my face.

but I have been cursed at above by another member and I'm not allowed to talk about doors. I was considering asking about "spools" and "hammers", but I'm afraid of what will happen.

I'm staying away from this subject all together.

Except to say:

I just got back from an Italian Restaurant to pick up a take out order of spaghetti. A woman was entering while I was exiting. I held the door for her. She said thank you. I said you're welcome.

The spaghetti was delicious.

or maybe not, since I am not always that smart here either. But I think that what the poster was saying was that the Lounge is for silliness, laughter, and going all the way to the insane. They didn't want to hear about the things that they are running to the Lounge to get away from....like some of the insanity in GD (General Discussion). Don't worry about it, there are a lot more people who are willing to help you than to condemn you....and I am not sure that the poster was condemning either, it may have been said in joking. You never know. A suggestion for next time, get into a thread that is already opened by someone else on the subject, and just ask there. It's easier.

You will find most people here are ready to help you, some people will always be contrary (learn to use your Ignore feature), and some will just ignore you. Well, that is as long as you don't start spouting right wingnut ideas, which will get you flogged, then stoned, as well it should. Concentrate on the "most people".

but then again, it might be better if people just didn't swear at strangers.

It should not be up to me to take an action (ignore) to solve the problem of hostility that some people seem to have toward others.

I do appreciate your advice...thank you.

Oh, sorry. This just reminded me. I've been trying to figure if I can afford new interior doors and someone to hang them. My house is slowing disintegrating.

ie finances, physical shape, what kind of doors you want, etc. but....the pre-hung ones are fairly easy to do. If you can't or don't want to do it yourself, try to find a handyperson and pay him/her under the table.

The non pre-hung ones are a different story....need good skills for those.

I just need to figure out what it's going to cost. mr. union_maid really can't do stuff around the house anymore. He's not too well. We're kind of oldish and he's on social security. I work, but it's for a real non-profit. The kind where you don't make an awful lot of money. So we need to be careful.

I would do it for you for free or next to free.

My advice...solid doors are expensive. Pre-hung hollow doors are cheaper, and they don't look bad. You just slap them into the rough opening, use shims in between each jamb and the 2 x 4 in the wall to make the jambs plumb, and nail the jambs through the shims and into the 2 x 4's.

But then you need someone who does decent molding work to put around the wall.

I used to be able to hang a new door to an existing jamb, but you would have to chisel out the hinge spaces on the door. My eyes are shot, so I can't do that close work anymore.
