(2,173 posts)My wife's mom was deep into Alzheimers and didn't even know who she was. She passed quietly one evening with her husband by her side. My wife had resigned herself to the fact that she was already gone, long before she died. Her dad had full faculties all along and it was much more traumatic for her when he died.
At least Aunt Martha died peacefully, and that's the best we can all hope for. Give your wife a hug for me. We're only on this starship for a short time in the greater scheme of thing, but if we lived forever we would be overpopulated. Elders dying help you come to terms with your own mortality. It isn't easy, but it does prepare you for your own demise.
Take care and give her a back rub, bath, nice dinner, and other such things. That's really the best therapy. Talking doesn't help much. That's for later. Hug her a lot. Oh, and hot chocolate. It's amazing what hot chocolate can accomplish. Whipped cream on top is a bonus.
My thoughts are with you and her.

(13,661 posts)Many hugs to Mrs. V. I know she's got more than enough to worry about / feel sorrowful about with her family these days.
But - not to sound like a completely crass assh*le - I don't suppose this means you two can go to Hawaii for a funeral, does it? Wasn't Aunt Martha living there with her daughter?
Bertha Venation
(21,484 posts)But her daughter is taking her home to Tennessee, to be buried with her husband.
Thank you, my friend.

(17,252 posts)and peace to Aunt Martha, may those who love her find comfort in the joy filled memories you all hold so dear.
I know it's hard and so many emotions to deal with.
Love one another and be reminded of all the good things she represented.
I am so sorry for your loss
