His suffering is over, and for that I am grateful. It's hard, even when you know that the end was near, but I'm comforted in the faith that I will see him on the other side. His passing was peaceful.
I love you, Pop.

(464 posts)Quite like the love between a father and a son, a parent and a child. Know you were blessed to have such a wonderful influence in your life.

(40,656 posts)sorry that he left this world. A dad and mom are the rocks for all of us to stand on if we get lucky enough. The orphan fraternity is a sad one. I wish you the very best and know honey that time is your friend.

(Know that even now writing that under my name is still one of the strangest things i do. It will take time. Grieve as long as it takes. Don't let someone tell you to move on or any of that closure crap. Take care and know you are loved)

My best wishes to you and your family.

(7,658 posts)but I too am glad for you and especially for him that his earthly suffering is over. My dad is 95 and I try to prepare myself for that day, but I know there is really no way to. But i also firmly believe there IS another side and that you and he WILL reunite in a place of perfect light and love.

(21,977 posts)Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for your kindness and support. DU is a special place and each of you are special.
I'll share one thing that is on my heart now. Every phone call with Pop started like this:
Bake: Is this my dear old Daddy?
Pop: is this my baby son? (Yes, I'm the youngest)
And we always closed it by saying I love you. He'd always tell me to give everybody a big hug for him, and I'd respond by saying that I always do what me Daddy tells me to do.
Mrs. Bake said last night, who's going to tell you to give everybody a big hug?
And I said even if he can't tell me to do that, I will, because I know that's what he would say.
I love you all. So here's one for Pop.

(21,977 posts)My Pop was a lifelong railroad union man. I grew up reading the union magazine. I remember him telling me, before I was even old enough to know what it meant, don't ever cross a picket line; there's nothing lower than a scab.
When I was a kid and my brothers and I would get in a fight (often), he'd make us make up and he'd say now kiss your brother! God I hated that! But he was right.
