Man subjected to 'It's a Small World' song on stuck Disney ride awarded $8,000

Finally, some justice! The award was way too low, but at least the song didn't kill him or drive him insane.

Disabled man stuck on Disneyland 'Small World' ride awarded $8,000

The paraplegic man was stuck on the ride for 30 minutes, listening to the famous tune, while others were evacuated. He needed medical aid after being rescued.

A disabled man who was stuck inside Disneyland's "It's a Small World" ride after it broke down — though the music played on — has sued the amusement park and been awarded $8,000, the man's attorney said Tuesday.

...

They were having a great time, Geffen said, but the "It's a Small World" ride "stopped working as he was just exiting the goodbye tunnel. The music was still blaring."

...

Martinez was stuck on the ride for about 30 minutes, and then required medical assistance.

The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana. Geffen said the court awarded $4,000 for pain and suffering and $4,000 related to other access violations.

So if the song inflicts $8,000 worth of pain and suffering per hour, the length of the ride should indicate how much compensation everyday riders are due. Right?

Singing anything atonal and abrupt that disrupts the brain's ability to loop a musical track will get you out of an earworm. You might have to use it more than once at spaced intervals. Whatever you do, do not think of the song you're trying to get out of your head afterwards or else it'll come back. In fact, try to occupy your mind with something else before and after. I find math problems and the crossword puzzle work great.

The most common one I can think of is the "by Mennen" jingle.

singing the Star Spangled Banner as mental floss to get those nasty ear worms out. Works for Me. I just have to resist the urge to shout "Play Ball" afterward.

The monetary damage was only related to him being stuck on the ride when it was evacuated. People obviously didn't give a shit about him which is sad. I think the violations are probably ADA related. They should have doubled it just for having to listen to the music though.

It makes me wonder about the DUers who feel this man should have gotten nothing.

I'd've given him $8M. That is an evil, evil right and they should destroy it and build something else.

I grew up 40 miles from Disneyland in CA. Went the lst year they opened and dozens of times while living in the area. The song stayed in my head forever!
Really they could replace waterboarding with this and probably get better results.

In my opinion, being forced to listen to "It's a Small World" repeatedly should be outlawed by the Geneva Convention as a form of terrorism.
