Dirty Little Secret: Sometimes I play "Meat is Murder" to make me feel guilty for eating meat

Seriously - I love meat, and being Calvinist, feel the punishment must be doing something.

Not that I love meat, because I don't really. But I've gotten so good at it, that I even feel guilty about eating seafood, which I love.

eaten beef in over six years, ever since I went to a county fair and spotted, up close, a beautiful young black bull destined, eventually, for "the market".

I was so close I could see its eyelashes.

And I had just eaten a cheeseburger like 20 minutes before. I felt wretched, and it was the very last time I ever ate beef.

Still eating the pork, but it's getting harder and harder to do. If I ever come face to face with a pig, it will probably spell the end of my pork/ham eating.

Chicken and turkey...less guilt, but some.

Fish...less than chicken and turkey, as long as I don't see it in any form other than a filet.

Sometimes when I eat plants I imagine I can hear them screaming.

The only food that doesn't cause horrible guilt is mac and cheese, but that's only because it's so processed it's hard to imagine it being something else in a previous life.

I like it, too. Even more compelling, I have to cook it for other people sometimes and I'm way too lazy to make extra meals. But I do feel real bad about it and I'm sure there will be a karmic price to pay.

....a cow is nothing more than a T-bone steak wrapped in shoe leather. Cows are so dumb, we're doin' 'em a favor by eating 'em.

Cows are pretty smart. They know they are being killed. They run when they get the chance.

Why do think you are more intelligent than the cow?
"Lastlib"? Generally liberals are thought to have empathy.

I have first-hand experience with them. Why do I think I'm more intelligent than a cow? Well, not a single one on my cows ever learned to read, let alone solve differential equations..... I have plenty of empathy--for humans, and a few other select higher animals that don't provide me with food. I probably lost my empathy for cattle when one of them tried to crush me against a concrete wall.

As for the sniveling "idiotic, thoughtless, selfish" crap, you can take that and stuff it. Click. Ignore.

As a species, we are omnivores. the grazer branches of the hominid family tree didn't survive.

For the actual butchering later I prefer something calmer and more focused, usually Liszt or the Well-Tempered Clavier. Need precision there.
