1. The hook.

My sister terrified me with the story of the Hook when I was about 8 years old.

2. My favorite was always the aggressive, tail-gating trucker with his brights on.

And the twist: At a stop light, he noticed someone hunched down in the back seat of the car in front of him, with the driver (always a woman) evidently unaware of his presence. So the trucker puts on his brights to make the guy stay hunched down, and follows the panicked woman to her house, where he nabs the guy running after the woman who is frantically trying to get to safety in her house.
