The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI need good thoughts for my nephew.
It might seem like a little thing compared to some of the truly life-altering experiences that many DUers are dealing with, but, I hope I can squeak this one in because he's starting his young life and we hope he starts on the right foot.
He's on a waiting list for a college in Boston which will get him close to my daughter. Nothing would please us more than to have the two kids together. Waiting lists, however, are very iffy. We won't know the outcome until mid month. This might be a Hail Mary, but this is the college he prefers. Any good thoughts would be appreciated.

(46,684 posts)My sister said that the 15th is the drop dead date. Which means that the first offers went out on May 1st. If we don't hear by the weekend, he's probably not in the first round, or at all.

(16,350 posts)though i don't know him at all. The bombings last month happened during that little bitty window when colleges are waiting to hear if their admissions offers are accepted by the student applicants. The bombings will factor into some prospective students' (and even moreso their parents') choice of which college offer to accept. All Boston area colleges will probably see a reduction in their yield this year. So there should be more space available for waitlisted students than if there hadn't been this horrifying attack on the public in Boston. I really hope your nephew gets in. Something good has to come out of that tragedy. I think there's a really good chance.
Tell him to contact the admissions officer and politely express his hope to get in. Other waitlisted students are surely doing that. We went through the college thing last year. My kid is there and very happy. Great place to be a student. What school is your nephew hoping to get into?
