Particularly peaches, plums and watermelon, but she'll eat an orange and sometimes apple. Sometimes they just like it, I suppose. I say let her have at. Has to be good for her.

That's about the size of your cat's brain.

Cats (and dogs, and most animals) eat all sorts of weird shit.

Do you just eat what's served to you, or if you see something you want to eat, do you eat that too, even if you otherwise have enough food to meet your nutritional requirements?

thought she'd stop. But she kept at it for 5 minutes. Maybe she needed the water or something in it.

I had a cat that would eat any fruit/vegetable that didn't eat her first......she LOVED corn on the cob! Peaches were on her list, too.

How does she drink normally? If she's thirsty she might eat the fruit to quench her thirst.

On the one hand I'd like to think as stated here that she probably just enjoys strawberries.

On the other hand, you may have also answered yourself w/in your own question: her dry cat food.

The prey that a cat would eat on its own would be about 70% water. Dry food contains about 10% water. Since they are supposed to get most of their water from their food, they don't have a thirst instinct that makes up for the hugely suboptimal amount of water in a dry-only diet. So while the average cat will actively seek their minimum required amount of water, most won't intake near an optimal amount of water.

Also I found this comment on metafilter... I haven't read much recently on cat nutrition but it rings true with bits I remember:

They lack the enzymes to process most plant matter. Cats eat grass in order to help regurgitate things they can't digest- in a wild cat, this would be things like beaks and bones and feathers. In domestic cats, their diet is often full of too much weird stuff like grains and fillers. So they still crave vegetable fiber because there's lots of stuff they can't digest properly in their diets. When cats can't get access to grass, they eat houseplants and vegetables and other random stuff because they have a natural craving that is not being satisfied. So it's not really fair to say that because they eat a thing, they can process it to the extent of getting nutrition from it- passing it would be more correct.

As far as the strawberries go: well, domestic cats learn to like weird things when trying to respond to natural urges.

sweet potatoes, and green beans. Vet says it's fine, but naners in moderation.

It doesn't have to be real ice cream; it can be frozen yogurt. He seems to know when I am eating ice cream and not some other thing that requires a bowl. He will sit there as close as he can get and he will attempt to steal a taste if I am not careful. I believe that if I set the bowl down somewhere, he would be right on it.

I usually let him lick the spoon when I am done. That seems to make him very happy.

Go figure with pets, she may like the taste. Got curious after seeing you eat strawberries.

I have a parrot who is supposed to love fruits and veggies. She won't touch them fresh, dried or otherwise.
