I had to make a visit last week to have a heavily embedded tick removed from our 5 year old Golden who LOVES the wooded outdoors.

The vet says it's especially worse this season already.

Good PSA!

We used to use an herbal topical that I made at home for my two little guys (one has terrible reactions to the chemical stuff like Biospot and Frontline). But as much as I hate to do it, we're going to use Advantix this year. The dogs are also getting Lyme vaccines. We live out in the country and the ticks are everywhere!!

We don't usually spend any amount of time in the woods until then, however the vet has suggested year-round treatment given the mild winters we've been having...

There was a thread last week a out this..

It would help if you indicated what part of the country you are talking about. This may well be a bad tick season for many regions, but given some of us had 16 inches of snow a mere few days ago, not all is equal.

Climate change is surely going to add to your flea and tick problem, though (along with mosquitoes)

We had a lot this winter though. Depending on where you are -CO I assume- the ticks might be really bad once y'all finally get your spring, despite all the crazy snow. We had a mild winter last year and not many ticks. Awful, long winter this year...and tons of ticks.

I would be suicidal with the winter you guys have had. I like snow...but to a degree.
