as some of you know we got forced to move from our old place and well the one cat we adopted from our landlord after she died. Well The cat enjoyed his little kingdom. He came in and ate or chilled out (warmed himself/cooled himself as he needed) but when he wanted to he went out and held his spot on the porch as his throne and when he needed to he made his "constitutional" around the block making sure all was well in his kingdom and reminding the dogs and fellow cat that he was ruler of the block. He also had a chance to practice his hunting skills.
Our new place isn't as quiet as the old neighborhood + we live on the corner and have too streets to deal with. The weather is starting to get nice and though he wants to rule the outdoors again but the noise and the strangeness of the area doesn't let him feel comfortable. He mainly goes out on the back porch sniffs the air and comes running back in.
He is sitting on the window ledge right now thumping his tail against the wall and doing small meows (the type he did to warn "prey" he was coming for them.) and he is well pissed that the birds have the never to be so close and he can't chase them away.
Any suggestion for our little king who misses his old life. After all "It (was) good to be the king"

(1,353 posts)It will take a while, though. Give him plenty of toys, play with him a lot, and get a laser pointer thing so you can give him something to chase around the house. Invest in a bag of catnip, so you can treat him with it, as well. A tablespoon or so on the rug, or rubbed into his scratching post.
If you can swing it, consider getting another cat. A kitten might be best.
I have 9 indoor only cats, and 5 of them are former feral cats. They're doing just fine, and don't even try to escape anymore. They're happy, healthy, and run and play a lot. You really are doing your cat, and the local small wildlife, a great favor by keeping him inside!

(1,353 posts)That will help. He will get used to being indoors, I promise! I hope you don't feel bad about it. My cats are in the windows pretty much all day. They like to watch everything going on, and especially like it when birds or chipmunks come by, then they do the chattering and lashing their tails thing.

(14,180 posts)Does your place have a porch, at least? Our kitty was once an outdoor cat and when the weather gets warm she pines to go outside. She'll sit by the front door crying, and waiting for the chance of make a dash when it opens. But, we have a porch and live on a cul-de-sac, so things are pretty quiet traffic wise. Can you let him out under supervision, perhaps for a little while, or are things just too dangerous for that?
We let our cat out and she will sun herself and roll around, or sometimes just curl up under one of the chairs. She won't venture too far off the porch, but when she does get a little too adventurous it's back in the house for her.
