Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong is apparently not a fan of Korean singer PSY. We know this because he took it upon himself to post a photo of PSY on Instagram with the following caption: "This dude is the herpes of music. Once you think it's gone, it comes back. #herpes #flareup #pleasegoaway."
The apparently unprovoked dig comes after PSY's release of "Gentleman," his "Gangnam Style" follow-up which dialed 22 million views in the first 24-hours after it was posted to YouTube.
PSY isn't mad. In an interview with FUSE, the singer first asked what herpes was and then brushed off the vulgar insult. "I kinda like it, it's cool," he said. "He said I'm like the herpes... that keeps coming back. I think it's really cool. Thank you."
It's a bit confusing, though, to see Armstrong getting so upset about a Korean pop singer. After all, the freshly rehabbed singer's band doesn't face much competition from the dancepop artists like PSY. .....................(more)

(54,013 posts)Personally, I always try to avoid arguing against success. So if Psy's a hit, let him hit away. But when you listen to how similiar Gentleman is to Gangnam Style, you gotta admit Bille Joe's got a point.

(12,008 posts)Despite what Armstrong thinks (and I do think he's a good songwriter and performer), PSY is his competition. They're both just top 40 kind of musicians that a lot of people like to hate for their success.

(50,557 posts)Like they used to say on American Bandstand, his stuff has a good beat and you can dance to it...but read translations of the lyrics and you'll think he's the Korean Phyllis Schlafly. Gangnam Style is about taking a girl out for coffee.

(13,324 posts)for both 90's alt-rock and 90's hip-hop, even as lame and overly commercialized as a lot of it was. But basically anything that's super-popular now, whether it's pop or rap or so-called rock, I can't fucking stand.
