I gained 50 pounds in 4 months. People were starting to ask me if I was training to become a sumo wrestler. Others were asking me when the "baby" was due.

I had previously considered bacon as a sub-group in the pizza food group.....

Here are my four food groups as they've stood until now:
1) Meat and potatoes;
2) Pizza;
3) Chocolate;
4) Coffee

What to do?

We agree about all, I must, however, add some alcohol...

Meat & Potatoes ... washed down with red wine
Bacon MUST have its own group!
NY Pizza...I hope! ... more red wine
Chocolate
Coffee
Single Malt Scotch & Small Batch Bourbon

Except for the part about pizza. Not overly fond of it. And it is even less fond of me. I'll just take the red wine, and feed the pizza to the pigeons. Or to any wino or winette who happens to be close at hand, and would care for some.

I grew up in Brooklyn, NY... pizza is in my blood!

We seem to be in perfect harmony as to the rest of the dietary pyramid! With what would you replace the pizza?

I do like a good burger. Or a sub / hoagie / grinder / gyro. Even a Philly Cheese Steak.

Any or all of the above. I am, however, at a loss for an all-inclusive term for these epicurean delights. Any thoughts?

As all of the items include bread/grains, in one form or another how about the "Breads + group"?

But to me, the dough isn't the thing - it's what's inside. The bread is incidental. A carrier, if you will. However, until such time as one of us comes up with some other collective term, it will do nicely. And sandwiches, or hot sandwiches, just doesn't do it. So I have already rejected them.

Having said all that, in the words of the Immortal Bard - "what's in a name? A rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet." Or something very close to that. Too lazy to look up the exact quote.

So we we will call it the Bread + group until a better appellation is hit upon! I will be sure to give the mater careful consideration!

bacon is very allowed. Make that local, organic bacon made w/o nitrites and nitrates.
