http://finance.yahoo.com/news/mcdonalds-cuts-angus-burgers-menu-180448506.htmlThe Oak Brook, Ill.-based company had said earlier this year that it was evaluating whether to continue selling the Angus Third Pounders, which were introduced in 2009 and are among the chain's priciest items. The company also said at the time that it was it was cutting Chicken Selects and Fruit & Walnut Salad.
The changes come as McDonald's looks to keep up with shifting tastes, even as it underscores the affordability of its food. The website BurgerBusiness.com, which reported that the burgers were being dropped earlier Thursday, also said that it learned from McDonald's franchisees that the company intends to expand its line of lower-cost Quarter Pounders in coming months, including an option with bacon.
At a time when the restaurant industry is barely growing, McDonald's has been playing up its Dollar Menu in ads to boost sales and steal customers away from competitors. Even if that hurts profit margins, executives say the strategy is critical to gaining market share and ensuring the long-term health of the company.
I actually got burned a few weeks ago when I tried to order Selects. I don't do fast-food burgers, largely because it takes an act of Congress to get one without yucky mustard, etc. I cast around the menu in confusion and landed on Fish McBites. Surprisingly good. Definitely of piscine origin.

(11,411 posts)I ordered them when I was in mood for a big burger. Of course if McDonald's wasn't the only drive thru fast food in town, I probably could have had a tastier alternative (BK whopper, Wendy's, Hardees). For McDonald's though, they were much better than their other burgers.

Otherwise, meh, there are much better burgers out there.

(27,677 posts)Who wants to eat an Anus Burger? That's just disgusting. I know that there are people who are into that sort of thing but they are disgusting people. McDonalds is supposed to be a family restaurant--they even have playgrounds--and then they turn around and put something like this on the menu? What? Oh, that's different.
