It might be the wine talking but I think I did OK for my wife's Mother's Day supper

I made Hamburger Wellington with Pillsbury canned biscuits and sauteed squash, zucchini and onions and our daughter made terriyaki rice.

First I browned hamburger patties (I mixed in some Worcestershire, garlic, salt and pepper) just underdone. Then I made a mushroom gravy with some of the red wine I'm drinking and beef stock and chopped mushrooms and a little more garlic (and flour to thicken of course).

The biscuits come 8 to a can so I used two per burger. I flattened them out, dropped a slice of muenster cheese on the bottom one, then the burger, then a couple spoons of the gravy, then the top biscuit and baked them according until brown.

I know I'm not a real cook or anything but she was happy to be served and it was edible.

I'd say you're a real cook, and I'm sure she was touched by your thoughtfulness.

Congrats!

I don't know what most of the proper terms are but I can follow directions pretty well so I get some cooking done now and again.

and I feel safer experimenting on burger than on Filet lol. I just used a recipe for mushroom gravy off the web and heard about using biscuits somewhere. It came out pretty tasty. I substituted some of the stock with the the wine.

It was thoughtful of you to relieve your wife of cooking duties. Sharing them with your daughter was a wonderful experience for both of you, I'm sure.

I've always maintained... if you can read, you can cook! Keep up the great work OriginalGeek!

She has let me know I am welcome to make this again lol. This was the third version I've tried and definitely the best. We've tried it before with Pillsbury crescent rolls and with a jar gravy but making the gravy was much easier than I thought it would be and the biscuits were easier to use than the crescent rolls.

Oh, I did make the gravy in the same pan I had fried the burgers in - had to dump a lot of the grease out but left some for flavor...

We also had red velvet cake for dessert but I just bought that from Publix - they make a pretty good one.
