as opposed to just about anything in current play....

I will sound "old and cranky" saying this, but at least the music of past decades wasn't (for the most part) so damned formulaic. Granted some current music is good, some has great "beat" and even a bit has some decent lyrics accompanying, but in general it is just so damned formulaic and overly produced. Or it is rap... (I'll leave that largely uncommented--different strokes and all that...).

cause I feel the same way.

Maybe the songs on the charts were always played to death but now I just cannot tolerate them over and over!

radio knew that there would be better tape players and CD players enabling people to listen to their personal favorites so top 40 became top 10 radio ..Even songs you liked got played to death .
Who decided what is " Classic Rock " Why can you still hear the Doors Led Zep and the Eagles 29 hours a day with the alternative being drum machines and dreck that doesn't even have 3 chords .........ITS A CONSPIRACY I SAY !!!!!!! this is why people listen to talk radio and have become so polarized and ignorantly fearful ( me included ) hey the worst music is better than most "news "

Hi,

It is called Ratings & Research.

Radio Ratings are broken down into quarter hours because Research has shown that the average person does not listen for more than 15-20 minutes at a time. More Research has shown that the average person wants to hear something familiar, a song they like & makes them feel good or brings back a good memory when they are listening. That is one of the reasons songs are played over & over.

When Unfamiliar songs are played, people change the station. There is little loyalty in Radio. Research is also geared toward what women want to listen to, since more research has shown that women actually listen to the commercials more than men. Women buy the stuff advertised.

Moral of the story: Radio is Over Researched way too much. More moral of the story: everything is over researched hence bar codes & loyalty cards in stores show the Big corporations what you are buying. We are being controlled.

Last moral of the story: Take your own music to work since Radio is controlled by the big Corporations.

They weren't great, mind you, but they were good and suffered from being severely over played

Hey,
Hotel California came to mind when I saw the subject, and basically anything by the Eagles for me. Basically anything classic rock stations play. I feel sorry for the dj's at those stations, do they actually listen to that dreck or do they turn it down in the studio.

Peace

How long was that thing on the charts?? Nine weeks, I think. Seemed like nine YEARS! I swear I used to hear it coming out of the taps, when I'd turn on the water!
