Because I follow a gossip rag and I know Paltrow is going over board trying to relate to the average person, but it's not selling. At least, not IMHO.

(7,515 posts)aside from a crack about Reese Witherspoon making romantic comedies for money and recognition, I found nothing particularly irritating...and several I heartily agreed with. I
guess it is a matter of perspective...and in the words of the immortal Liberace...she is
"laughing all the way to the bank" Any press is better than none...she's a crafty female.

(6,787 posts)I've always loved Blythe Danner..and she was one of those actresses who sneaked up on you...Didn't make a splashy debut, just turned in fine work over many years. So... she was never dogged by interviewers for her personal opinions on everything. Or she was smart enough not to give many interviews. Gwyneth Paltrow is much farther "out there" as a celebrity, and everything she says, smart stupid or meh, is open to debate. Danner managed to be famous without being overexposed or a target of envy. Her daughter's career, not so much...It's a double edged sword, to coin a phrase. So when Gwyneth says something stupid, we all cringe a little louder..

(22,298 posts)For a long time, she's banged away on my last nerve, but I kept quiet about it. Then I was in Europe & read a piece in an English paper where she was trying to distance herself from comments she made in Spain about Americans, claiming her comments weren't translated properly. Since they very nicely provided what she said in Spanish, I was able to read the comments myself & yup, she said exactly what the paper claimed she had. It was something along the lines of apologizing to the Spanish for most Americans being too stupid to visit places in Spain apart from Madrid & Barcelona.

For someone who "seems" to make an effort to be relatable she's failing pretty miserably at it.

She got better, but I don't watch her movies much.
She is super fit, which I respect about her since that involves a ton of self discipline.
I don't know Blythe Danner much either.

(14,881 posts)I'm surprised she ever appeared in public again undisguised after that completely cringe-inducing embarrassment. Colleague of mine worshiped her until that night. I remember his outrage when I said I thought although overall her performance was very good, albeit unconvincing as a male, her voice was dangerously close to a nasal whine in Shakespeare in Love. Then came that acceptance speech. He turned bright red when I asked if he'd seen it. And he'd wasted no time finding some other supposedly perfect female celeb to love from afar.

(20,886 posts)Paltrow has limited talent. If she bares her boobs again, I will throw up. Not that she doen't have nice boobs, because she does. But gratuitous boob baring for career advancement makes me furious.
