The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support Forums(Sigh!) I miss the old DU.
I've tried to give the new DU a chance, and I like a few of the changes; but.
The main thing I miss is, on the old DU Greatest page, I'd find all kinds of news I didn't KNOW I needed . . . and that's not happening much now.
Anyone else feel the same?

(150,355 posts)We still have the Greatest Page. It's as informative as it's ever been.
I love the new DU!

(10,556 posts)The most frustrating thing about the old DU Greatest page is that good posts got crowded out so fast by the flood of new ones.
Now, I feel like I'm spending a lot of time waiting . . . refreshing . . . hoping for something worthwhile . . . .
My biggest worry is that a lot of the best DU'er's gave up and left.
Another possibility: that some of them are still posting in subgroups; but how to find them?
A Simple Game
(9,214 posts)and there would probably be one you liked. Now the same articles are on the greatest page all day long. There are very few actual posters on DU anymore.
And way too many conservatives now, so many that some even brag about how conservative they are. The liberal bashing is getting to be boring.
It's to the point I often wonder why I come here anymore.

(27,630 posts)Maybe someday you will open a hidden door (click on a link) that brings you to DU2. It still exists, and a handful of DUers still post there.

(268 posts)Is it like a totally different site?

(27,630 posts)Seriously, I cannot show you the way... you might get there accidentally by clicking on a DU link to the past. You will someday stumble upon it.

But all in all, DU3 is fine. Much better than no DU at all...

Really, DU friend, it's a process, a work in progress, iow a LIVING THING. It's got vasty more features than I ever use, I just skip past and stick to the handful. In one of the past phases there were one or two features I really really disliked and actively griped about but even the very original version of DU seemed nearly perfect to me. When it went to DU2 I commented that change for its own sake didn't equate with "good" and that constant tinkering sometimes messed with perfection, like keeping on "improving" a painting until it is disfigured.
Late EDIT to add: It's nearly perfect again for me now, including a bell and whistle or two.

DU is fine, imo.
I get what I want out of it. And if I don't like it, I am free to leave at any time.

(7,515 posts)have anything to do with whatever manifestation of DU one is using. It's the pervasive sense of dissatisfaction that is sweeping the nation that causes us to long for something different. The Greatest page still produces much 'need to know information', but we just don't care for that information. For many the hope is gone, or fading fast, and we see that here on DU, as we see it everywhere else.
I joined DU in June of 2012, so my frustrations are not with this latest incarnation of DU, but with the overall dismantling of everything good that came about as a result of more liberal/progressive politics.

Hey, be glad there's a DU to gripe about. Where would we be without Sunday LOLcats, MFM's cartoons, LBN, the photography contests, our weekly Shakespeare quotes and art appreciation quizzes, all the groups and forums, and oh, so many other wonderful things to entertain us!
Look on the bright side, Sunshine!
What I miss about it is the atmosphere. I found it recently, it is still 'going strong' well, there are still live people kicking around in there. I forgot how I found it and lost my bookmark b/c I an a computer killer and had to reinstall my computer.
I feel a strangeness here, with the jury system and the censorship of items because the subject matter is not right -- for the LOUNGE give a ffffffkg break -- so yes, it has changed, or 'evolved' into something it was not.
Feel the same about my home town. I still come here to read almost every day and to post occasionally.
One of the weird things I recently saw, which encouraged me to sign in today just to reply to THIS post, was someone posted about prayer in the Lounge and it got shut down and told to go to the religion group.
It really was not even about religion. People were having a nice conversation, nobody was pissed, except someone who got offended at the sight of the word 'prayer' and had to go wash their eyeballs out and take the matter to court.
We must not color out side the lines or we will be promptly escorted from the room.
While things evolve for better or for worse, I had joined this board quite a long time ago and believe the people who come here should be able to freely discuss what is working and what is not working amongst themselves. I see here there are going to be plenty of people here who disagree with me, I am only voicing one single opinion.
