(54,268 posts)"Formally (sic) known as the Jack Russell Terrier in the USA, the Parson Russell name is now recognized by the American Kennel Club. The strong head is in good portion to the rest of the body. The muzzle is strong and rectangular. The stop is well defined but not prominent. The nose is black. The dark, almond-shaped, moderate sized eyes have dark or pink rims. The V-shaped ears fold forward. The teeth meet in a scissors bite. The chest is narrow with moderate depth. The legs are strong and straight. The tail is somewhat set high and docked so the tip is approximately level to the skull. The feet are round and catlike. The harsh double coat comes in both smooth and wirehaired. The coat color is predominantly white with black, tan or grizzle markings or a tricolor combination.

Jack Russells are the most hyper dogs I've ever seen.
Good luck.

(6,001 posts)There were two breeds of dogs that until recently were both listed as Jack Russell's.The ORIGINAL Russell terrier is the one now known as the Parson Russell. The one most people think of,the short haired, brown and white terrier is the Jack Russell.
The dog now known as a Jack Russell originated as a cross between the dog now known as a Parson and another breed. They turned out to be cool dogs who were very popular and a few years ago the AKA split the longer haired version...the Parson...and the short haired Jack into two separate listings of breeds.
If that isn't a very clear explanation a pic may help. This is my Wonder Terrier Katie. She is pure Parson.
Either way lord help me.Parson or Jack, they have the EXACT same temperament
Hell on Paws is a good way to describe Katie.
