DU Glossary

-

Hi everyone,

haven't been here at the DU in a while, but just wanted to pop in and catch up a little and remind every one of the "unofficial" DU Glossary:

http://DUG.amystrange.org/

It's been ten years, and even though it really hasn't been updated since its inception (right around the beginning of the IRAQ War), it's still relevant today I think. Many of the links don't work, but there is still loads of interesting information with actual quotes from DUers from that time.

Check it out,

d

ETA: a missing parenthesis, and to change "but still relevant" to "it's still relevant"

but I do remember your name Rhiannon. It's nice to be remembered, but I do also remember that you were a nice person. I like nice people.

With a name like AmyStrange, how can I not be a stranger?

Looks like they got a Godzilla Marathon on late-nite. Talk to you later,

It seems like I knew everyone on DU.1, LOL, while now it's rare that I run into someone familiar. Though I was a mod and am now a forum host and on MIRT, so I do get to see old friends, since they're the most likely to also sign up...

I just got done watching the repeats of MSNBC prime time. It's because of DU that I keep up with things and know what they're talking about...

and what does the 12866 in your name mean Rhiannon?

DU is definitely one of the best forums around, and what makes it that way are the nice people like you who hang out here.

Thank you Rhiannon,

a/k/a "troll patrol". New in DU2. Should be added to the glossary.

I believe 12866 is her zip code in upstate NY.

I see people referring to some people or maybe posters as HOF. Maybe it should be obvious, but I didn't quite get the context and have been curious if it's about the media or something about posters. What's an HOF?

Hall of Fame? (most likely)
Horny Ol' Fart?
Hater of Facts?
?

Actually, I'm glad I was wrong about my initial interpretation of HOF, which I thought was maybe an inside kind of snark about other posters. I even thought it might mean Hair on Fire -- the Hall of Fame I thought was maybe singling some people out in a snarky kind of way (or good way, depending...?) That's why I've hesitated to ask because I didn't want to start anything negative if it was that. Anyway, glad I was completely wrong!

and thank you for your help R B,

no point causing trouble if you don't have to, but I'm glad you asked. I also added your definition, because it's still a legit one, in my opinion (IMO),
