(13,985 posts)I was right next to the stage, and Erik poured rotten blood on all of us. I had to go to work in the morning, only hours after the show. The cleaning crew at my office kept looking for a "dead animal" under the desk and around the office. Lil did they know it was me stinking of rotten blood :p

(12,132 posts)I was with friends that wanted to be right up front so I went up with them and you know how Nergal likes to splash fake blood all over and I apparently got in the way of some of it.
(I was this close - that's my friends arm on the right)

So after the show I stopped at a 7-11 for ride home snacks and there was just two little old ladies running the store. When I walked in the one behind the counter gasped and started signalling her co-worker to follow me around - I went into the bathroom and saw in the mirror I had blood running all down the side of my face. I left it there for the fun of it. I think that was the highlight of their night. They were looking at me like I was a walking murder victim. Or perpetrator.

(12,132 posts)on a week night just to see Napalm Death and they weren't even the headliners. I didn't like any other band on the bill (it was a really weird show with a bunch of -core bands and Napalm Death - the headliner was Devildriver I think...lol) so I got there in time for ND, rocked out, got a shirt and beer and went home and made it to work on time the next day.
There are shows in june and july and I think I remember seeing something in august and september but I mostly only get notifications for Orlando and Tampa...but a lot of tours that come here also hit Miami so there might be something good for you. I'll keep an eye out.

(12,132 posts)at the first MDF I went to (The whole reason I went really) and Pestilence was also supposed to play that weekend but Pestilence got messed up on their Visas and couldn't fly from Europe so Bolt Thrower played another headlining set the next night to take their place. I got to see them twice in 2 days and it was one of the greatest things ever.
Seeing them play World Eater pretty much made my metal viewing life.

and Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness is one of the finest metal albums ever crafted but I've been so disappointed by their last couple albums that I no longer can really consider them a top 5 fave.
In no particular order some of my other faves: King Diamond/Mercyful Fate for sure...Terrorizer, Pestilence, Atheist, Obituary, Nocturnus, Lock Up, Autopsy, Rompeprop, Pungent Stench, Wormed, Asphyx, Hail of Bullets (Pretty much anything Martin Van Drunen has ever done), At the Gates, Jungle Rot, Coroner, Prong, Cattle Decapitation, DRI, Voivod, Resistant Culture, Rudra, Nuclear Assault, Rotten Sound...
and a bunch of others... and I'm pretty sure I will die unsatisfied because I want to see them all live and some I'm just not gonna get to. But I've seen a lot of 'em.

*Edit: corrected grammatical error.

(12,132 posts)haven't heard much from the others. Haemorrhage was supposed to play at the last Death Fest I went to and I was sorely disappointed that they couldn't get there.
I did get to see Rompeprop though and they were great live.
I like all kinds of grind.

(24,461 posts)Best -
2002 (or late 2001?): High on Fire/Mastodon/Burnt By The Sun/Keelhaul - Grog Shop. First time seeing Mastodon and was instantly hooked. HOF destroyed as they usually do. Keelhaul is a diamond in Cleveland's otherwise mediocre heavy music scene.
2009: Municipal Waste/Skeletonwitch - Now That's Class. Old school pit, speaker dives, tight music . . . oh and Phil Demmel and Rob Flynn were in the crowd amazed at my 1990 Vio-Lence shirt ("I don't even remember this design!"
.
1990: Vio-Lence/Defiance - Empire. Flotsam and Jetsam headlined . . . but Vio-Lence. Sorry, the show ends there. You aren't following Vio-Lence successfully.
1989: Sacred Reich/Forbidden/DBC - Peabodys. Metal shows really don't get much better than this one. All bands were on point that night and Forbidden impressed the hell out of me with their enthusiasm.
1991: Napalm Death/Godflesh/Nocturnus - Peabodys. What do you say about this? First time seeing Napalm Death, first and only time seeing Godflesh. Such a memorable show, three level pit, selections from Scum and From Enslavement to Obliteration . . . damn.
1988: M.O.D./Laaz Rockit - Peabody's. My first real pit, and talk about into the fire from the frying pan. Everything about that show killed it.
Worst -
1990: Mordred (opened for Nuclear Assault @ Peabody's): Really terrible live act. Scott Holderby sucked as a frontman and they had sound problems the whole evening. Stoned as fuck, he started insulting the crowd. Amazing. The crowd let them have it from song two.
1990: Sacred Reich - Agora Ballroom. They opened for Obituary and Forced Entry; both of those bands created a wall-to-wall pit and killed it. Phil Rind decided to be a floppy penis that evening and yell at the crowd for getting into his music. Not a good idea when your band just got stomped by Obituary.
1989: Queensryche (opened for Metallica @ Richfield Coliseum). Some people slobber over this band, I was bored. Totally not my thing. Mindcrime's an OK album for their type of metal . . . just not my thing. This was the last Metallica tour before they took the dark road to suckdom and guyliner with Smell the Glove.
2013: Hostile Omish (opened for D.R.I. @ Peabodys). All the proof you need as to why Cleveland's metal scene is a general dead end, with a few notable exceptions. First time seeing this band in their 20 year existance, and I can totally see why. Lame gimmick, worse songs, it just sucked, sucked, SUCKED.

(13,324 posts)...YOB, Skepticism, Blasphemy, Beherit, Thanatos, Ripping Corpse, Taake, Leviathan (even though Whitehead's a creep), Epidemic (old Bay Area death/thrash band), Noothgrush, Saint Vitus/Obsessed (anything w/ Wino really), Melvins if they count...
And I'm always finding more stuff to obsess over. Like recently I've gotten really interested in "war metal" - bands like Bestial Warlust, Conqueror, Revenge, Black Witchery who play this insanely fast and aggressive death/black metal hybrid.
