Ray Manzarek (1939—2013)

The Doors have announced on the band’s official Facebook page that keyboardist and founding member Ray Manzarek has passed away at the age of 74. He had fought a long battle with duct cancer.

Manzarek is survived by his wife Dorothy, brothers Rick and James, son Pablo, Pablo’s wife Sharmin and their three children Noah, Apollo and Camille.

The Doors lacked a bassist, so Manzarek usually played the bass parts on a Fender Rhodes piano. His signature sound is that of the Vox Continental combo organ, an instrument used by many other psychedelic rock bands of the era. He later used a Gibson G-101 Kalamazoo combo organ (which looks like a Farfisa) because the Continental's plastic keys frequently broke, according to Manzarek.

The website “mediamass.net”

The website mediamass.net is the medium of our satire to expose with humour, exaggeration and ridicule the contemporary mass production and mass consumption that we observe

Also it will not only mock the procuders (mainstream media, journalists) as it is common when questioning and criticizing mass media, but also the consumers as one cannot exist without the other. Sensationalism, lack of verification of information, ethics and standards issues are only symptoms of the actual social and economic order. This is particularly obvious when observing the role of social networking sites in spreading rumours.

Were it not for Manzarek, the Doors may have been just another angst-y bar band. But his distinctive sound, composing and arranging skill made them stand out.

In what ever place he is now gracing.

Last time I saw him and (Jim) live was in 1971, he was always one of the strongest Doors.

He was one that truly lived for his music. May his family be consoled on their loss
