(4,440 posts)Pics were taken from the top of Saddle Pass. I get a very heavy and beautiful vibe when I'm in the Badlands. I've hiked in and camped 5 or 6 times and have experienced some beautiful but frightening storms out there. I've also encountered a few rattlesnakes, and my wife was bitten on the foot by a brown recluse when we were camping there several years ago.

(2,142 posts)I LOVE the Badlands! My family and I were there almost exactly a year ago. I have never had the chance to be there later in the day, around sunset, so my pics aren't nearly as colorful but here are a few of mine:

(322 posts)Drove over the road for more than 30 years.
Never got quite that close as you did, yet I always cut down below Rapid City when ever possible.
The scenery going into Wyoming from that area was almost as majestic.
I did however years ago have the opportunity to go thru Teton and Yellowstone National parks in a big truck.
Problem with doing what I did is that most of the real scenic places were off limits to commercial vehicles. Maybe one of these days I'll get to do it in an RV or at least a car.
