I've heard New Yorkers go on and on about Shake Shack burgers, and loving burgers, I was always curious as to how they were.
They've recently started to expand to Florida, including one nearby my office. I tried going last week, only to find a line literally out the door. Yesterday, I tried going to lunch at a later time and was glad to see a much more reasonable line.
The verdict for me? Decent burgers. They taste a lot like Five Guys (which I also enjoy). The good thing about Shake Shack over Five Guys is that they don't go overkill on the fries (Yes, Five Guys, there can be too much of a good thing.) However, there's a Five Guys within walking distance of my office, which helps justify it better for me so I can at least mitigate some of the calories I've put on.
So they are decent burgers, but far from the best I've ever tasted. Now I'm just curious of what I'll make of In and Out, whenever I have the chance to have those.
What are your opinions on Shake Shack?

(12,022 posts)I'd say that Five Guys is about equal to Shake Shack.
I also like Johnny Rocket's.

(12,132 posts)so I'm interested in this Shake Shack thing - if they get to Orlando...how were they on price compared to 5 Guys? (I Consider 5 Guys as a bit expensive for lunch - cheeseburger, fries and a drink are over 10 bucks and I usually drop a buck in the tip jar so there's over 11$ for lunch. There's places I can get a sit-down meal with a server bringing me food for that)

I'm sure they'll be going to Orlando soon, given they've already expanded to South Florida.

(12,132 posts)I'll still probably try them - the one thing I always thought 5 Guys was missing was a good shake to go with it.
lol, I'm impatient though - maybe I'll call one of our south FL branches and angle for a road trip to fix something. Let the per diem pay!
eta~ Just saw this on their website:
that's worth the extra money to me.

(4,851 posts)and just evaluate the food, it is indeed a good burger. I find it better than a five guys burger. I am a fan of In-and-Out burgers and think the Animal-style cheeseburger is probably the best overall burger in the USA (non-indie burger joint). But for overall burger place, I LOVE Burgerville in the Pacific Northwest. Its Walla Walla sweet onion rings are to die for, it makes better shakes than shake shack and its burgers are simple but good, and use all local ingredients.
Taht said, all of these places charge way too much for 85 cents worth of chopped beef, a bun, some sides and cheese. It is crazy what they get away with. But suckers like me keep on paying for it, so they keep on making them. I wish I had the willpower, but these are some yummy eats.
