This one.. http://www.runordye.com/
I guess I'm 'getting ready' for it.
I'm currently running 2 3/4 miles at 3.9 speed--it's a nice pace. Breathing is good.
I think I should be ready by August 17.
Right?
I'm pretty psyched....to be honest 6 months ago I couldn't walk a mile without getting all winded and tired. Now I'm running almost three miles everyday. Yeah, I'm proud of myself.

(20,043 posts)I'm going to plant some tomatoes in those big clay planters:
Like this:
which ones would grow the best in these? I would plant in my yard but my dogs wouldn't leave them alone.
I live in Delaware so we have pretty normal weather.

(60,006 posts)As long as you water enough and use nice fluffy well draining mix, they do great- because the roots are warmed by the sun (above the ground), they progress faster in pots.
I've got a lot about container gardening here http://nctomatoman.weebly.com/1/category/container%20gardening/1.html

(20,043 posts)my husband and I love tomatoes! I wanted to grow my own this year. Usually I just help my dad with his garden--he lives right up the street--but part of our 'getting healthy' is eating more tomatoes, so I want to grow my own.
I didn't realize how good they were for you! And red onions too--my husband loves them. Lots of mouthwash. LOL!

(20,043 posts)looks like fun too. There isn't one in my state, but Baltimore isn't that much of a drive for me. I may look into that.

(4,465 posts)I know you are proud of yourself because I *know* how hard that it is! It's gotta feel good and yeah, you should be fine by August.
That looks like a lot of fun, I saw there's one in Atlanta, too. I'ma have to look into it.

(66,286 posts)Sheesh! Fight training and now road work. You're Wonder Woman!
I love beating on that bag. It's a great workout.
My mom has had both knees replaced and just came home from the hospital today; she had a hip replacement. She's only 65. She hasn't taken care of herself, arthritis runs in our family, I already have it in my hips, so I'm trying to do what I can to make sure I'm in better shape. Plus I like the way I feel when I'm done working out.

(66,286 posts)I feel better, sleep better, etc. I don't know if I look better, but I expect I don't look worse.
I wish I had been as in to fitness when I was a kid as I am now.
Maybe it's the prospect of getting older; you want to take better care of yourself, etc.

(4,243 posts)Since you're running almost 3 miles a day now, do yourself a favor and enter a small local 5K before before August. It'll kind of prepare you for the one you've got your sights set on. They're a lot of fun and you will meet some great people. I wish you the best!

(14,061 posts)You'll do fine.
There is no better feeling (adrenaline rush) than the countdown at the start of the race, and crossing the finish line. It is a THRILL.
Good luck!
Please report back on how you did.
