Saw Star Trek tonight...

Good movie. Although, the guy sitting behind me came up to me after the movie and yelled at me for laughing during the funny and amusing bits telling me "It's Star Trek, not fucking Anchorman." What an asshole. It's called a sense of humor, pal, grow one. It's people like that that made me stop being a Trekkie.

When you took it too seriously did you ever scowl and mutter at, or outright scold, people laughing at the funny parts?

But I kind of rage quit Trek after First Contact and something that at the time I thought was badly retconned, when in actuality, my previous notion of this minor plot point came from a book that's really not considered canon, per se.

And I'm a Trekkie from day one.
(Literally. 1966.)

It has the label, the character names, even the Enterprise.

But Roddenberry's optimism is gone.

It's JJ Adams "I wanna blow shit up!" movie.

Indeed Roddenberry's touch is gone. So is any semblance of a theme 'about' something. ST was always a thinly veiled discussion on the ails of modern society and the 'what if' of what could be if we could overcome out petty differences.

As an action film and popcorn muncher I still enjoyed it though.

And lots of familiar tropes. I loved it, even though I thought the chase scenes went on too long.

Would have liked more banter among the crew.

Simon Pegg is a hoot!

It was okay, but too predictable. I was disappointed that they basically remade "The Wrath of Khan". It was certainly entertaining, but I had hoped they'd come out with a more original story line.

but does it with some humor. Fair warning, it's full of spoilers for those who haven't seen it.

That he acted like an ass after the fact and that he wasn't pointing a gun at you indicates he should have been ignored and given no more consideration.

Glad to hear you liked the movie, I am trying to inspire Rot to go with me to see it.

There are plenty of rude idiots who are not Trekkies. Besides, I would have told him "Next time, stay home and wait for the DVD, or pay for all the tickets and get a private screening"

I cannot forgive the idiocy in the last one-- redesigning the Enterprise bridge and turning it into a mall beauty salon?! Cadet Kirk getting proted six freaking ranks?! Oh hell no!

Starfleet begins to have second thoughts about their whiz kid Captain with the hero father. And even Kirk begins to wonder if he's got the right stuff.

I liked this one a lot, even better than the first one. But I'm hoping that in the next one, they stop with the fanboy-targeted callbacks and give us an entirely new voyage, something we haven't seen before.
