My Brother caught a River Monster Northern Pike yesterday evening...

These were two of the 4 he has caught over the last 2 days. I got there a bit late because I had to work ...but I did catch one.... a 12" Pike with 6" bait! lol

I have to land me one ... we are heading out on Wednesday again.

Since he had caught 2 the night before he gave me the big one tonight. Here it is on my kitchen table before I filleted it.

I would put them on par with Bass.... not as good as a good Brook Trout but when they are prepared properly they are delicious.

I use the breading mix from a company called "Shore Lunch".... it is light and really gives my Bass and Pike a great flavor.

That's a damn nice catch though, nice girth for a Northern.

Trout for me are the best though... nice native brookies are absolutely awesome.

And after you have cooked it, grab the spine and all the bones come with it.

God, I love Northern Pike. They are my favorite tasting fish.

But I didn't want to have to de-scale the thing...

Maybe the next one I will do that... We are heading to the same spot Wednesday evening.

Hi,
Wow, those look like monsters. I like the can of PBR in the one picture to give it some scale. Thanks for sharing these.

Peace

I was looking around the apartment for something that would be good to show the others to how big this guy really was. PBR seemed like a great choice. Then drank it down while I attempted to fillet the thing.

Peace right back at cha...

in West Marquette county (Michigan's Upper Peninsula)

The name of the lake is Lake Michigamme and is about 5 or 6 miles long and a mile or so wide.

We were fishing one of the main rivers that feed into the lake. This time of the year the big Northerns swim upstream from the lake and if you happen to be there when they do... you have a chance to land one.

30 lb test line or more... steel leaders... and a large net are all standard materials needed.

He did have one break his line ... but they didn't get to see that one. It may have been a monster also... but he may have taken the line down to a log or some brush and got the line to break.
