Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsBoy I just cut the hell out of my finger.
Serrated knife, top of the first joint of my left hand. Deep enough to gap a little when bent. I don't think stitches would make any difference; I filled it full of Betadine and strapped it straight in a bandage. Funny thing is I was fine for several minutes but then almost passed out. I'm not a passer-outer.
Any advice? Will I heal? Do I need a drink? Can I type without that finger? Going to cut into my writing considerable.
Ick. I'm fishing for sympathy here.

(149,694 posts)They use superglue in surgery and in ER's too. A little dab will do ya.
I think you're on the right track...
Sometimes we feel shocky after a few minutes, when what we did hits us. You'll be OK.

(9,077 posts)if it's not one of the two you (I) type with, you'll type OK. Word of advice, don't bend it. Sorry to hear you're in pain. Get that drink quick.

(51,122 posts)Only take the drink, if you don't feel woozy.
Keep it straight and covered. Check it in the morning.

(7,515 posts)with a ceramic blade mandolin... It took forever to stop bleeding, but I didn't have any problems with feeling woozy or chilly. Is that a normal reaction for you? Is the bandage too tight perhaps?

(41,991 posts)It actually was several minutes after I cut it. Who knows. Hell, I don't faint at anything. I'm pretty amused about it but it was mighty weird. I enjoyed that drink tremendously.

(272 posts)I don't remember terrible pain unless I touched something with it. Bandaged it tightly, and it healed not entirely in the right place, so my fingerprint on that finger looks like a piece was lifted up and put back in the wrong place. I'm very fond of that fingerprint. I sympathize, though. It's so frustrating when you are digitally handicapped and need to use your hands.

Has the bleeding stopped?

(6,154 posts)So I used to be deadly afraid of needles. Like I would run away from the hospital if I had to get a shot for any reason! It was BAD! Then one day while working at 7-11 some years back I was cleaning the cheese and chili machine when I cut my thumb open. You guys know the cheese and chili machine at 7-11?
This fucker!

Well inside these things are large bags of horrible synthetic cheese. These bags need replacing of course and they come shipped sealed with a plastic nozzle. This nozzle has a plastic membrane covering it that needs to be cut out. They provide a small plastic tool just to do this. You push the tool in and turn 360 degrees and it cuts a nice round hole. Afterwards of course you need to clean the cheese off the tool. Idiot that I am I though, hell it's a plastic tool, I'll just wide the cheese off with my thumb. Wipe..., oh... that wasn't plastic... there was a hidden razor blade in it... :'( Now I have a thumb that looks like a bloody Muppet character.
Well I bandage it up and run off to the local clinic. There a DR take a look at it and yup, that's going to need stitches. Well WTF am I going to do now. I hate needles, but I think I hate having a Muppet thumb worse so... before I even knew what was going on he had a syringe in my thumb pumping it full of anaesthetic. That actually fucking hurt. The stitches that followed didn't. then he gave me a Tetnus booster shot just in case. 3 needles in the space of like 10 mins. And here I had spent the last 10+ year trying to avoid a single needle, hmm I guess that wasn't all that bad.
Moral of the story? If you want to end your fear of needles all you have to do is turn your thumb into a bloody sad Muppet. D:
This minor scar is all I have left of my Muppet friend.

(41,991 posts)I've never feared needles. In fact I was once a lab tech and drew blood for research trials. We were used as controls all the time. So the fainty thing was really funny.

(6,154 posts)The sharper the knife the less painful the cut. A serrated knife would hurt like the dickens. And the Iodine on top of that D:
This is as good an excuse as any for a drink right? Come to think of it, what isn't a good excuse for a drink? Hmm?
