The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI can't listen to "old" music.
I have just come to detest anything older than the eighties, with a very few exceptions. It all sounds so dated to me. I erased what little 70's stuff I had on my iPhone/iPad to make room for new albums. I didn't have much - some Beatles, Paul McCartney, Carly Simon, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, early Genesis, some Jackson Five.

(10,420 posts)I particularly like the newest that's out. My wife is the opposite. She's said that most of the stuff she likes was made before 1987. It's a constant battle when we are riding together in the car.

(37,648 posts)reflects its era (like Bob Dylan) is good to me. When a few more years pass, it'll be great BECAUSE it reflects an era.
But I like music from all eras. Talent is talent. I like clips of dancing from the beginning of film, too. And sometimes it's so campy, it's great.
OTOH, there is music like this:

(50,566 posts)I like alternative stuff from the 80s and onward that I haven't heard played to death -- stuff like Wiretrain and Echo and the Bunnymen, etc. I like newer stuff from the 2000s and 2010s (anything from Elliott Smith to Metric). I like some funky stuff from the 70s, but hearing the Beatles and Stones and and Who and Dead for the umpteenth time starts to depress me after awhile.

(23,584 posts)I grew up listening to rock in the late 60s and early 70s. Can't stand listening to that stuff these days. I like a lot of the new so called alternative stuff and indie music.
