(344 posts)the girlfriend character was totally useless in the film? I mean, what was her purpose other than to have a "hot chick" in the movie. If you include a character, even a secondary character, they should do something to further the plot or help the other characters grow/change throughout the movie. She was just there.
blah.

c. she is hot
d. she abandoned her professional credibility when she found out that he stole an ape and stole the medicine
You are right but that is Hollywood - you have to have the love interest. All the focus groups show it.
I noticed that the Dad (Litgow) is dispatched in 30 seconds.
Still it was a good movie.

(5,604 posts)Actually late last night I had a urge to dust off and watch "the Thing" (1982 version). So I was watching it, and was at the part with the husky (the Thing) roaming around and observing everything, and at that moment I turn around and huge Raccoon is sitting on my window ledge watching me eat popcorn and/or watching the movie, and/or watching me (like the Thing).

(719 posts)Had a similar thing happen one night years ago when I was up late/early, unable to put my book down and go to bed. It was probably 3:00 am, maybe a little after, and I was reading 'Salem's Lot for the first time. In the midst of a particularly creepy scene, a gust of wind knocked a tree branch against the window-- hard-- and scared the daylights out of me. This was followed by barking dogs.
Weird stuff in the wee hours....
